A Cebu Pacific flight attendant revealed the meaning behind black triangle stickers in airplane cabins in a TikTok video that went viral. These triangles are placed in locations that provide the best view of the wings for passengers, as well as signal the best vantage points for flight crew to check the slats and flaps outside. Passengers who love taking window shots and videos are advised to look for these triangles when choosing their seats for the best view over the wings.

TikTok users tried to figure out the rows with the triangles based on the video, with some speculating that they were in rows 10 and 18. The flight attendant confirmed that the triangles were indeed located at either row 10 or row 18, depending on the type of aircraft. Some passengers initially thought that the triangles were flies that had entered the plane when they noticed them next to their seats.

In a Quora post from 2015, a retired aerospace engineer explained that the black triangles mark the location of what is known as ‘William Shatner’s Seat,’ which offers the clearest view of the wing inside the airplane. This seat is the best position to visually check for ice or other issues on the wing. The reference to William Shatner comes from a Twilight Zone episode where his character sees a gremlin on the wing of the plane he is a passenger on.

The flight attendant has also shared the meanings behind red and green lights on airplane wings, as well as the purpose of tiny holes in airplane windows. She has revealed a “scary” reason why flight attendants sit on their hands while in their jumpseats, providing insights into various aspects of flying that passengers may not be aware of. These revelations shed light on the thought and planning that goes into ensuring the safety and comfort of passengers during flights, making seemingly mundane details more interesting and purposeful.
