According to a new Quinnipiac University poll, Georgia voters currently favor former President Trump over President Biden in a head-to-head matchup, with Trump leading 49% to 44%. This survey was conducted following Trump’s recent guilty verdict in his New York City trial, where he was convicted on 34 counts of falsifying business records. The gap between Trump and Biden widens to a six-point spread when including other independent presidential candidates in the race, such as Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. and Cornel West, as well as third-party candidates like Chase Oliver and Jill Stein. The independent vote is evenly split between Trump and Biden at 45% each.

Despite the guilty verdict against Trump, the majority of voters in Georgia, 54%, believe that it will have no impact on their vote. In fact, 23% said it would make them more likely to vote for the former president. Only 22% of respondents, primarily Democrats, stated that the verdict would make them less likely to support Trump. Both independents (18%) and Republicans (5%) also indicated that the guilty verdict did not deter their support for Trump. In regards to Trump’s election interference case in Fulton County, the majority of voters, 54%, believe that Trump did nothing illegal.

When it comes to key issues in the race, Trump holds a significant advantage over Biden in the eyes of Georgia voters. This includes areas such as immigration, the economy, the Israel-Hamas war, and the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Additionally, voters believe that Trump would be the best candidate to preserve democracy, with a 49%-46% margin. However, Biden holds a slight advantage on the issue of abortion. Biden’s job approval rating in Georgia stands at 36%, with 60% of voters disapproving of his performance as president.

The poll also highlighted the intense partisan divide among voters in Georgia, with Republicans overwhelmingly supporting Trump and Democrats backing Biden. Trump’s endorsement is seen as a significant factor in the upcoming election, with accusations of disloyalty flying within the swing state primary. Despite the ongoing controversies surrounding Trump, such as the guilty verdict and allegations of election interference, his support remains strong among Georgia voters. This state is crucial in determining the outcome of the November general election, and the current polling data suggests a close race between Trump and Biden.

As the 2024 campaign trail heats up, the dynamics of the race in Georgia and other swing states will continue to evolve. Trump’s strong showing in this poll indicates that he remains a formidable contender, despite facing legal challenges and controversies. Biden will need to work hard to regain support and address voter concerns on key issues like the economy and immigration. Ultimately, the race in Georgia may come down to independent voters’ decisions and how they view the candidates’ handling of critical issues. The upcoming general election promises to be fiercely contested, with the battle for swing states like Georgia likely to play a crucial role in determining the next president of the United States.
