This week, a woman drove over 330 miles to adopt a cat that had been returned to a shelter, and a Guinness World Records–holding dog impressed us with a new trick. In addition to these stories of online fame, Newsweek has been collecting pictures and videos of readers’ pets for their Pet of the Week feature. Readers who want their pets to be part of the lineup can follow the instructions at the end of the story.

The winner of this week’s Pet of the Week is Jack, a 1-year-old cat who acts more like a dog according to his owner, Jenelle Hardwick. Jack was found near the owner’s mailbox and quickly became a beloved member of the household. Leash-trained and capable of performing tricks such as rolling over, Jack has become a unique and cherished companion for Hardwick.

Among the finalists for Pet of the Week is Hannibal, an English bulldog who enjoys car rides and visiting the flea market in his doggie stroller. Another finalist, Sprocket and Rosie, have recently become dog parents to a litter of puppies and are said to be naturals in their new role. Wiggle, a rescue cat who was underweight when he was found but is now thriving in his new home, is also a finalist. Lastly, Diesel, an unconventional yet lovable Pomeranian, rounds out the finalists with his favorite activities including car rides, swimming, and spending time with other dogs.

Newsweek’s Pet of the Week feature aims to showcase funny and adorable videos or pictures of readers’ pets. Readers can send submissions to life@newsweek.com with details about their best friend for a chance to be featured in the lineup. Newsweek is dedicated to challenging conventional wisdom and seeking connections in the pursuit of common ground. Through stories of extraordinary pets and their owners, readers are invited to share in the joy and wonder that animals bring to our lives.
