In 2024, the FDA has recalled 28 beverages due to the presence of drugs, harmful chemicals, or bacteria that were not disclosed by the companies. Some of the recalled drinks include Himalayan pain relief tea, Martinelli’s Apple Juice containing arsenic, and Fiji Water with bacteria and high levels of manganese that can cause brain damage. Additionally, drinks produced by Charles Boggini Company were recalled due to food dyes linked to cancer risk, including Red40 and Yellow 5, as well as undeclared sulfites in the Cola Flavoring Base.

The food dyes found in the recalled drinks contain benzidine, a carcinogenic substance for both humans and animals. The undeclared sulfites in the Cola Flavoring Base can cause allergic skin reactions, digestive issues, and asthma in individuals with sulfite sensitivity. According to a food safety expert at Northeastern University in Boston, drinks are sometimes made available to the public before proper checks are conducted by regulatory authorities. The pressure on the FDA to crack down on food and beverage companies has increased due to the rise in scrutinized drinks with labeling and undisclosed ingredients.

Some of the beverages recalled in 2024 include Schweppes Zero Sugar Gingerale, Mug Root Beer by PepsiCo, Rise Brewing Organic Oat Milk, and Nordic Naturals Baby’s Vitamin D3 Liquid among others. The wide range of drinks recalled highlights the importance of transparency in labeling and ingredient disclosure to ensure consumer safety. With the increasing number of recalls, the FDA is facing pressures to enforce stricter regulations on food and beverage companies to prevent the distribution of potentially harmful products to consumers.

Consumers are advised to be cautious and informed about the drinks they consume, as recalls due to undisclosed ingredients can pose serious health risks. The presence of harmful chemicals, drugs, or bacteria in beverages can have detrimental effects on health, ranging from allergic reactions to long-term health issues such as cancer. It is essential for companies to comply with regulatory guidelines and provide accurate labeling information to ensure the safety and well-being of consumers. By staying informed and aware of potential risks, individuals can make more informed choices when it comes to selecting beverages for consumption.
