Former President Donald Trump held a news conference where he continued to make more than 20 false claims, including inaccurate statements about Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz. Trump falsely claimed that Harris was responsible for a California policy allowing people to rob stores under $950, which is not true as theft under $950 remains illegal in California. Harris was not the person responsible for the policy change, as it was implemented by a Republican governor and affirmed by California voters. Trump also made false claims about Walz signing a bill requiring tampons in all boys’ bathrooms, which is not accurate as the bill only requires tampons for menstruating students in specific bathrooms.

Further fact-checking revealed that Trump’s claims regarding his immunity from charges he is facing and statements about the 2020 presidential election were inaccurate. Trump falsely claimed he has blanket immunity from charges, when in reality, the Supreme Court ruling only grants him immunity for certain actions taken during his presidency. Additionally, Trump’s claim about the election results, stating he received 10-12 million more votes than in 2016, was accurate, but his mention of “other votes” excluded from his total is baseless. Trump also made false claims about US energy production, mortgage rates, inflation during his presidency, and his civil fraud case.

Trump also made inaccurate statements about Vice President Harris, suggesting she has a more significant role in immigration and border security than she actually does. Harris has been tasked primarily with leading diplomacy efforts with Central American countries to address migration issues, while Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas is responsible for border security. Trump also repeated baseless claims about foreign governments deliberately sending criminals and mentally ill individuals to the US as migrants. Additionally, he falsely claimed credit for ending the Nord Stream 2 pipeline and exaggerated the value of military equipment left behind in Afghanistan.

Trump also repeated his baseless claim that President Biden received money from the wife of a former mayor of Moscow, despite evidence indicating the money was meant for someone else and did not go to Biden. He also falsely accused journalist Chris Wallace of trying to prevent him from discussing the alleged money during a debate. Trump’s claims about tariffs on China, trade deals, and deportations to Central America under the Obama administration were also found to be inaccurate. Studies have shown that Americans paid the cost of Trump’s tariffs, and China did not fulfill its purchase commitments under the trade deal he made. In 2016, countries like Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador were not considered uncooperative in accepting deportations from the US.
