The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has begun experimenting with new remote screening technology to expedite airport security screenings. Clear, a private identity screening company, is now enrolling passengers in the TSA PreCheck program at select airports across the United States. This partnership with Clear makes it the third company to offer enrollment options for low-risk travelers, in addition to Telos and Idemia. TSA PreCheck, launched in 2013 with over 19 million members, provides dedicated security lines where travelers can keep their shoes and jackets on, as well as leave laptops and liquids in their bags, resulting in shorter wait times under 10 minutes compared to standard lanes.
TSA Administrator David Pekoske expressed that the PreCheck program enables vetted, low-risk travelers to move through security more efficiently. Clear CEO Caryn Seidman-Becker also highlighted the benefits of the company’s enrollment opportunities, providing passengers with a fast and efficient airport experience. These additional enrollment providers aim to make it easier for the public to enroll in PreCheck and enjoy a seamless travel experience. Clear charges $77.95 for TSA PreCheck enrollment, while Idemia’s fee is $78 and Telos’ fee is $85. Currently, Clear’s enrollment and renewal services are available at Orlando International Airport, Sacramento International Airport, and Newark Liberty International Airport, with memberships lasting for five years.
