The District Election Board Presidency decided to cancel the Pınarbaşı Municipality Mayorship and District Municipal Council Membership elections due to the delivery of unsealed ballot bags. The District Election Board Presidency also decided to hold a re-election on Sunday, June 2, 2024.
MHP Kayseri Deputy Baki Ersoy announced on his social media account that as a result of objections, the District Election Board decided to cancel the Pınarbaşı Municipality Mayorship and Council Membership elections, and to hold them again with 6 in favor and 1 against.
Pınarbaşı Municipality Mayor and candidate of the People’s Alliance, Menduh Uzunluoğlu, stated that the local election process, which everyone participated in with great excitement, has left behind a period full of unexpected developments. He emphasized that the irregularity that emerged at this crucial moment was detected, and the decision for a re-election was made. Uzunluoğlu believes that this decision will test the democratic values and desire for coexistence, but also sees it as an opportunity to strengthen unity, solidarity, and mutual decision-making spirit in Pınarbaşı.
According to the unofficial results of the March 31 Local Administration General Elections, CHP candidate Deniz Yağan received 5,082 votes in the district, while Menduh Uzunluoğlu received 4,758 votes. The re-election is seen as a chance for the residents of Pınarbaşı to come together, reinforce their spirit of unity, solidarity, and mutual decision-making, and start anew.
Uzunluoğlu concluded by saying, “Every difficulty also opens the door to a new beginning. The elections scheduled for June 2 provide an opportunity for Pınarbaşı to strengthen our spirit of unity, solidarity, and decision-making together.” The decision to hold a re-election has raised hopes for a fair and transparent process that will shape the future of Pınarbaşı.
