Doug Gottlieb, a longtime broadcaster, is stepping into the coaching ranks as he takes over for Sundance Wicks at Green Bay. During his introductory news conference, Gottlieb expressed confidence in his ability to balance coaching duties with hosting a national sports radio show. Despite the time demands that come with both roles, Gottlieb believes this unique arrangement will work in his favor. He acknowledged that he might have to give up his radio show if the two jobs cannot coexist but is optimistic about the combination.

Gottlieb highlighted the potential benefits of his radio platform in promoting Green Bay, even though he will not be able to discuss local Green Bay topics. He emphasized the value of showcasing the Fox Valley as a wonderful place to live and raise a family. With no prior college coaching experience, Gottlieb’s appointment has raised eyebrows, but he is confident in his abilities and points to successful nontraditional hires in the past, such as Steve Kerr and Fred Hoiberg. He sees this opportunity as a dream come true and is ready to prove himself in this new role.

Aside from his broadcasting career, Gottlieb has coached U.S. teams to gold medals in the Maccabiah Games and has experience coaching AAU games. Born in Milwaukee, he has a strong connection to Wisconsin and appreciates the real community and work ethic found in the state. Green Bay athletic director Josh Moon praised Gottlieb’s dedication to coaching and believes he has been working towards this opportunity for a long time. Despite his lack of college coaching experience, Gottlieb’s passion for the game and desire to succeed are evident in his approach to this new role.

While Gottlieb’s coaching debut at Green Bay may be unconventional, he is determined to make it a success. The challenge will be to build on the momentum from Wicks’ lone successful season at Green Bay while juggling the responsibilities of his radio show. Gottlieb’s ability to manage these demands and continue to grow as a coach will be closely monitored as he steps into this new role. He remains focused on promoting Green Bay while leveraging his radio platform to showcase the community and highlight the opportunities in the Fox Valley. Despite the potential obstacles, Gottlieb is committed to making this unique coaching arrangement work and proving his critics wrong.
