A Texas woman was kidnapped and sexually assaulted by Reynaldo Tapia-Arcibar after he offered to help her with a flat tire. The woman was stranded along the roadside and was tricked into getting into Tapia-Arcibar’s car, where he then drove her to an apartment complex and sexually assaulted her. Despite her attempts to escape, she was initially unable to do so. However, she was able to send her location to a friend for help and eventually called 911 once she was able to get out of the car. The police were able to quickly locate and arrest Tapia-Arcibar because the woman had shared her device location with her friend.

After the incident, the police were able to locate and arrest Tapia-Arcibar at an apartment complex where the assault took place. The Austin Police Association President praised the woman for sharing her location, stating that it helped them get to her more quickly. The incident was described as “tragic” and it was advised that anyone waiting for roadside assistance should call their local police for assistance. It was also recommended to ask for the name and vehicle information of anyone responding to a roadside assistance call to ensure safety.

Tapia-Arcibar is currently being held on a $50,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on June 12. If he does post bail, he will be required to wear a GPS ankle monitor and have no contact with the victim. Aggravated kidnapping in Texas is a first-degree felony that carries a maximum sentence of life in prison and fines of up to $10,000. The incident serves as a reminder of the dangers that can arise when accepting help from strangers, especially in vulnerable situations like being stranded along the roadside.

The woman’s quick thinking in sharing her location with a friend ultimately led to the swift arrest of Tapia-Arcibar. Police emphasized the importance of sharing location information in emergency situations to enable quicker response times. The incident highlights the need for caution when accepting assistance from strangers and the importance of contacting local law enforcement for added safety. Authorities also advised verifying the identity and vehicle information of anyone offering roadside assistance to ensure one’s safety in such situations.

Tapia-Arcibar now faces charges of aggravated kidnapping and sexual abuse in connection with the May 16 incident. He allegedly lured the woman into his car by promising to help her with a flat tire but instead assaulted her at an apartment complex. The severity of the charges reflects the serious nature of the crime and the impact it had on the victim. As he awaits his court date, Tapia-Arcibar remains in custody on a significant bond as authorities work to ensure the safety and well-being of the victim and prevent him from causing further harm. The case serves as a reminder of the importance of being cautious and taking steps to protect oneself in potentially dangerous situations.
