In May, surprising data revealed that John F. Kennedy and LaGuardia airports had some of the lowest rates of flight disruptions in the country. Only 21.8% of flights at JFK experienced disruptions, while LaGuardia had a slightly higher rate of 23.6%. These two airports, considered to be among the busiest in the country, managed to keep disruptions relatively low compared to other major airports. Salt Lake City International Airport and Minneapolis-St Paul International Airport had even fewer disruptions, with rates of 18.6% and 20.8% respectively.

On the other hand, Texas airports did not fare as well in terms of flight disruptions. Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport had the highest rate of disruptions at 45.6%, while Houston George Bush Intercontinental Airport followed closely behind at 40.6%. South Florida also struggled with high rates of disruptions at Miami International Airport, Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, and Orlando International Airport, all of which had rates above 30%. Despite being popular travel destinations, these airports had significant issues with flight disruptions.

The list of worst airports based on flight disruptions included major hubs such as Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, Houston George Bush Intercontinental Airport, Charlotte Douglas International Airport, and O’Hare International Airport. In contrast, the best airports with low rates of flight disruptions included Salt Lake City International Airport, Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, John F. Kennedy International Airport, and Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport. These airports managed to keep disruptions under 25%, creating smoother travel experiences for passengers.

Overall, bustling airports such as Seattle-Tacoma International, Boston Logan International, and Los Angeles International were able to keep disruptions relatively low, with rates hovering below 25%. However, Texas airports, along with several South Florida airports, experienced high rates of flight disruptions in May, causing frustration for travelers. The data highlighted the importance of efficient airport operations and air traffic management in order to minimize disruptions and maintain a positive travel experience for passengers.

Despite the challenges faced by some airports, the data from AirHelp revealed that certain airports were able to handle flight disruptions effectively and keep rates low. Different factors such as airport size, weather conditions, and air traffic control efficiency may impact the rate of disruptions at airports. By analyzing this data, airlines and airports can work towards improving their operations and reducing the number of flight disruptions in the future, ultimately providing a smoother and more reliable travel experience for passengers.
