Dallas police have announced that Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott will not be charged after being accused of sexual assault in an alleged incident in 2017. An investigation into the matter has been closed as police determined there was “insufficient evidence” that a crime was committed. Prescott’s representatives were notified in February about a woman who accused him of sexually assaulting her in 2017, prompting Prescott to file a lawsuit against the woman for allegedly trying to extort him out of $100 million.

In response to Prescott’s lawsuit, the woman filed a police report accusing Prescott of sexually assaulting her seven years ago. Despite the lack of charges from officials in the case, the woman’s lawyer, Yoel Zehaie, expressed that it is common for victims to take time to come forward in sexual assault cases, making prosecution difficult. Zehaie also mentioned that very few sexual assaults end up getting prosecuted, but they plan to move forward with their civil claims against Prescott. The woman also filed a lawsuit in March in Dallas County, which has since been re-filed in Collin County as a countersuit to Prescott’s lawsuit.

The ongoing legal battle between Prescott and the woman involves both Prescott’s lawsuit against the woman and the civil suit against him. Court records show that the legal proceedings are still ongoing as the case continues to develop. A lawyer for Prescott was not immediately available for comment, but Prescott’s attorney Levi McCathern expressed gratitude towards officials for conducting a thorough investigation into the allegations against Prescott. McCathern stated that the investigation found no evidence to support criminal prosecution and attributed the false accusations to an attempt to exploit the situation for financial gain at the expense of true survivors of sexual assault.

The lawsuit filed by Prescott alleges that the woman and her legal team weaponized false sexual assault allegations against Prescott without any basis in reality in an effort to extort money from him. Despite the lack of criminal charges against Prescott, the woman’s lawyer remains committed to pursuing civil claims against him in court. The case serves as a reminder of the complexities and challenges involved in prosecuting sexual assault cases, particularly when victims may take an extended period to come forward with their allegations. The legal battle between Prescott and the woman continues to unfold as both parties seek resolution through the court system.
