Courteney Cox opened up about her late “Friends” co-star, Matthew Perry, on “CBS Sunday Morning,” claiming that Perry still “visits” her even seven months after his death. The actress portrayed Monica Geller alongside Perry’s character, Chandler Bing, for 10 seasons on the beloved sitcom, and reflected on the show’s 20th anniversary since its series finale. In the finale, the characters of Monica and Chandler ended up together, and Cox spoke highly of Perry’s humor and kind heart despite his struggles.

Cox touched on her spirituality during the interview, explaining that she feels guided by Perry and other loved ones who have passed away. She mentioned that she talks to her parents and Perry, sensing his presence around her. Following Perry’s tragic passing in October 2023, the “Friends” cast released a joint statement expressing their devastation and loss. They described themselves as more than just castmates, emphasizing their close bond as a family. Cox, along with Jennifer Aniston, David Schwimmer, Matt LeBlanc, and Lisa Kudrow, shared their thoughts and love with Perry’s family and fans worldwide.

Shortly after Perry’s death, Cox took to social media to share a tribute in his honor, recalling a fond memory she had with him. She expressed gratitude for the time she spent with Perry and how much she missed him every day. In the post, she mentioned Perry’s humor and kindness, highlighting a funny moment they shared before filming a scene. Perry was found unresponsive in a hot tub at his home in Pacific Palisades, California, on October 28, 2023, and was pronounced dead at the age of 54.

The LA County Medical Examiner’s Office later determined that Perry’s cause of death was due to the “acute effects of ketamine,” with other contributors such as drowning, coronary artery disease, and the opioid buprenorphine listed in the autopsy report. Perry had a history of drug and alcohol abuse, which he candidly discussed in his memoir, “Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing,” published in 2022. The manner of Perry’s death was deemed accidental, given his struggles with addiction and related health issues.

Courteney Cox and other “Friends” cast members have continued to remember Matthew Perry fondly, reflecting on their time working together and the impact he had on their lives. Cox’s belief that Perry still “visits” her and guides her spiritually speaks to the deep connection and bond they shared both on and off-screen. Despite Perry’s challenges with addiction and ultimately his untimely passing, his memory lives on through the hearts and minds of his friends, family, and fans who cherish the moments they shared with him.
