Costco has launched a weight loss program that is subscription-based and accessible to both members and non-members. The subscription costs $179 for members and $195 for non-members for a three-month period. The program is in partnership with Sesame, a healthcare company, and offers services such as access to prescription weight-loss drugs, consultations, nutritional guides, and personalized treatment plans. The cost of the program is claimed to be the most affordable weight loss program in the US.

Included in the weight-loss program are consultations with clinicians, access to prescription weight-loss drugs like GLP-1 medications such as Ozempic and Wegovy, and individualized treatment plans based on the patient’s specific needs. Sesame states that patients could potentially lose 5% of their body weight within three months, 10% in six months, and 15% in a year if they follow their program. Clinicians at Sesame will assess each patient’s medical history to create appropriate diet, exercise, and lifestyle modifications, as well as prescribe medications when necessary.

Costco and Sesame noticed an increased demand for weight loss programs from customers who were using their services. Initially, the program did not include weight loss services, but the companies recognized the clear need for it based on customer inquiries. As a result, the weight loss program was developed to help customers address their weight loss goals effectively. The subscription-based model is aimed at providing convenient and affordable access to weight loss services for individuals seeking to make significant lifestyle changes.

Sesame’s co-founder and CEO, David Goldhill, highlighted the importance of innovation in medically-supervised weight loss programs. The partnership with Costco allows for greater accessibility and affordability of specialty healthcare like weight loss. Sesame’s model empowers clinicians to create individualized care plans that are tailored to each patient’s unique needs. This approach aims to ensure that patients receive specific and appropriate treatment plans that are conducive to their weight loss journey.

In addition to the virtual care services provided by Sesame, there are also in-person care options available through Costco’s partnership. The weight loss program is part of an expanded range of healthcare services offered by Sesame to Costco customers. The program focuses on providing a holistic approach to weight loss by combining virtual consultations, personalized treatment plans, and prescription medications to help individuals achieve their weight loss goals. Costco joins other retailers like Amazon and Walmart in offering remote access to healthcare services to customers, reflecting a growing trend in the industry towards making healthcare more accessible and convenient.
