Residents of Gümüşpala Mahallesi in Avcılar were alarmed by a change in color along the coastal areas of the lake. The water turned brown and red, emitting a foul odor in the surroundings. Concerned about the bad smell, residents urged authorities to start a cleaning operation in the lake.

Noticing plastic bottles, bags, and food packaging along the lake shore, locals emphasized the need for a comprehensive cleaning of the lake. Hasan Kal, who has been running a business in the area for 18 years, claimed that no local administration has taken action to clean the lake. Kal also mentioned that customers are disturbed by the situation, stating that the lake is not being properly maintained and even sewer rats have been sighted.

Idris Şahin, who frequents a café next to the lake, complained about sporadic foul odors emanating from the lake. He emphasized the necessity for a thorough cleaning operation, mentioning that despite the construction of a waste disposal facility in the vicinity, the problem remains unsolved. Living in the neighborhood for 32 years, Şahin expressed disappointment in the lack of cleanliness, claiming that the issue has persisted throughout his time in the area.

Ersin Yılmazer, who came to the lake shore for a walk with his child, expressed disappointment in the unsightly view before them. Yılmazer was hoping for a pleasant experience but instead encountered a worrying situation due to the unpleasant state of the lake. With the need for immediate action to address the pollution and foul odors, residents and visitors alike are calling for a comprehensive cleaning effort to restore the lake’s beauty and ensure a healthy environment for all.

The community’s concerns raise questions about the lack of adequate measures taken by local authorities to address the pollution in the lake. The accumulation of plastic waste and pollution is not only an eyesore but also poses serious environmental hazards. The urgency of this situation calls for swift action and cooperation between residents, local government, and environmental agencies to initiate a thorough cleaning campaign to restore the lake to its pristine state. As the outcry for action grows louder, it is crucial for stakeholders to come together and prioritize the health and well-being of the community and the ecosystem surrounding the lake.
