Hasbro and Renegade Game Studios are teaming up to bring back the beloved tabletop game Heroscape for its 20th anniversary in the Age of Annihilation. The game, which allows players to build forces from multiple genres of heroes and villains on customizable hexagonal battlefields, quickly became a fan favorite upon its release in 2004. With a strong community of passionate fans, the partnership aims to reinvigorate the brand and bring new and old players together for a renaissance of miniature gaming experiences.

The wide variety of genres and robust gameplay of Heroscape drew players in, allowing them to play out battles between dragons, World War II commandos, and undead warriors. The game had a low bar to entry, making it accessible to a wide range of players, while also offering a training ground for parents to teach their kids the joy of tactics. Players could enjoy both the ‘Basic Game’ with simplified rules and the more complex ‘Master Game,’ which unlocked special powers for each figure, adding layers of strategy and tactics.

The unique feature of Heroscape was the hex-based terrain system that allowed players to build and rebuild battlefields in minutes. The more boxes players purchased, the larger and more intricate the battlefield could become. This feature also appealed to traditional miniatures gamers, allowing them to use the terrain with their favorite games. The gameplay reached across the divide between new players and seasoned veterans, offering something for everyone and encouraging creativity in gameplay.

The initial releases of the revitalized Heroscape are set for August 2024, with the first Battle Box, the Battle for the Wellspring, offering a small collection of miniatures and terrain for new fans to try out the system. Larger sets in this release will offer pre-painted and unpainted versions of the miniatures. For experienced fans, the Age of Annihilation Master Set includes 20 new figures, 74 hex pieces, maps, and scenarios. The second wave of products is due out in October 2024, along with the release of the Heroscape Terrain System for fans to expand their terrain collection without buying more figures.

Renegade Game Studios is dedicated to fostering community engagement with organized play events, tournaments, and opportunities for fans to share their love for Heroscape. The team is excited to bring new life to the game with the development of new expansions and other exciting game content.
