Cash App, a popular payment service with over 50 million users, is facing a major legal settlement due to unauthorized data breaches. The class-action lawsuit alleges that Cash App and its parent company Block were negligent when a former employee accessed unauthorized account data in 2022 and when another user accessed certain accounts in 2023. Customers who have experienced unauthorized transfers of funds or had their personal information accessed without consent may be eligible to claim up to $2,500 if the settlement is approved.

To be eligible for a part of the Cash App settlement, individuals must have been affected between Aug. 23, 2018, and Aug. 20, 2024. This includes current or former customers of Cash App or Cash App Investing who had their personal information, accounts, or investments accessed without authorization. Those who experienced unauthorized or fraudulent withdrawals or transfers of funds, as well as deficiencies in account resolution, may also be eligible to file a claim. The proposed settlement amount is $15 million, with individuals potentially receiving up to $2,500 for out-of-pocket losses and $25 per hour for lost time, up to 3 hours.

Claimants must submit a claim form by 10:59:59 p.m. PT on Nov. 18, 2024. This can be done online or by mail, with the address provided on the settlement site. Any claims relating to multiple Cash App accounts should be included on a single form. It is important to ensure that the form is submitted by the correct deadline, as there may have been changes to the submission date. Once the final approval hearing for the settlement takes place on Dec. 16, 2024, payments will be distributed to eligible claimants.

In order to receive compensation from the Cash App settlement, individuals must provide documentation for out-of-pocket losses or transaction losses. This may include costs associated with credit monitoring or proof of unauthorized transfers. Claimants should follow the instructions provided on the settlement site to ensure their claims are processed correctly. The settlement administrator advised caution regarding the submission deadline, as there may have been changes that could affect the processing of claims. Ensure that all necessary information is included on the claim form to avoid delays in receiving payment.

Cash App users who have been impacted by unauthorized data breaches or fraudulent activity may be eligible for compensation as part of the settlement. This includes individuals who have experienced unauthorized transfers of funds, account access without consent, or deficiencies in account resolution. By submitting a claim form by the specified deadline, eligible claimants may receive up to $2,500 for out-of-pocket losses and reimbursement for lost time. Ensure that all required documentation is provided to support your claim and follow the instructions carefully to navigate the claims process smoothly.
