Cassie Ventura’s legal team criticized Sean “Diddy” Combs’ apology video that he posted after surveillance footage of him assaulting her in 2016 leaked online. In the video, Combs admitted to his “inexcusable behavior” but did not mention Ventura by name. His apology was seen as more about himself than the people he hurt, according to Meredith Firetog, a partner at Wigdor LLP, Ventura’s legal firm. She stated that Combs’ apology came only after his repeated denials were proven false, showing his desperation and lack of sincerity.

Combs mentioned in his apology that reflecting on the darkest times in one’s life can be difficult but necessary. He admitted he was “f—ked up” and had “hit rock bottom” at the time of the assault in 2016. Taking full responsibility for his actions, Combs expressed disgust at his behavior and stated that he is committed to being a better man. He also mentioned seeking professional help and regularly going to therapy and rehab since the assault.

Despite initially denying Ventura’s claims of physical abuse and rape, Combs settled the lawsuit she filed against him in November 2023 for an undisclosed amount just a day after it was filed. However, his legal team clarified that the settlement was not an admission of wrongdoing on his part. In her filing, Ventura described the 2016 hotel assault when Combs, who was intoxicated, punched her in the face, causing a black eye, and later threw glass vases at her as she tried to escape.

The disturbing surveillance video showed Combs dragging Ventura to the ground by her neck, kicking her repeatedly, and dragging her across the hall by her hood. This behavior further confirmed the disturbing and predatory actions of Mr. Combs, as stated by Ventura’s attorney, Douglas H. Wigdor. Ventura showed courage in coming forward to bring light to the abusive behavior she experienced. The footage was described as gut-wrenching and highlighted the severity of the assault that took place in the hotel in 2016.

The legal battle between Ventura and Combs shed light on the issue of domestic violence. If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, it is important to seek help. The National Domestic Violence Hotline provides confidential support and can be reached at 1-800-799-7233. Ventura’s case serves as a reminder of the importance of holding abusers accountable and supporting survivors of domestic violence in seeking justice and healing. Combs’ apology, while acknowledging his actions, was met with skepticism by Ventura’s legal team, who saw it as insincere and self-serving.
