“7 people from my family were stabbed”

Despite losing the election, injured Fatih Akgül stated that this incident occurred, saying, “When the election started, there began to be a crowd of people around. The son of the rival headman candidate gathered people from outside and brought them here. They constantly provoked us. There were armed and knife-wielding individuals on the other side. They stabbed 7 people from my family. Two of them are receiving treatment in the intensive care unit. These people had a grudge against us. My father served as the headman for 30 years, and I served for 10 years here.

For about 40 years, we never harmed anyone. There were about 250 people. They cursed at my children and my children responded. At that moment, I was inside for vote counting. I heard shouting voices and went outside. When I tried to move my children away from there, I was stabbed from behind. When I went to the hospital, I was unconscious. We had clashed with this group many times before. We were trying to stay away from each other,” he said.
