The trade between us has surpassed 660 million euros, and the presence of Italian companies in various sectors of the Moldovan economy is a source of satisfaction, as it contributes to the country’s development. Our friendship is also fueled by the presence of a numerous, hardworking, and well-integrated Moldovan community in Italy, which daily provides an extraordinary contribution to the socio-economic development of my country. The Moldovan community in Italy represents a bridge between our countries, built on the solid cultural foundations that unite us, as evidenced by the recent concert attended by both presidents.

During the bilateral meeting with Moldovan President Maia Sandu, Italian President Sergio Mattarella confirmed Italy’s support for Moldova, stating that “Italy will continue to stand by Moldova in its path towards closer ties with the European Union, as confirmed in the Joint Declaration signed by Vice Prime Minister Gherasimov and Vice Minister Cirielli.” Mattarella also highlighted Italy’s assistance to Moldova, including approximately 40 million euros through the Support Platform for Moldova, to aid Ukrainian refugees and alleviate the effects of the energy crisis on Moldovan families. This support will continue in the future within the new Development Platform for Moldova.

Regarding the Russia-Ukraine conflict, Mattarella expressed concern about the war of aggression unleashed by the Russian Federation just a few hundred kilometers away. He emphasized that the recent G7 Summit hosted by Italy confirmed the commitment to supporting Ukraine without wavering, until necessary.
