Ben Affleck is being accused of selling himself as a changed man but failing to see it through during his marriage to Jennifer Lopez. The couple initially split due to public scrutiny but reunited in 2021. However, sources claim that they barely spoke to each other in private, with Affleck starting to crave more privacy and struggling with Lopez’s level of celebrity. Affleck, who has publicly battled with sobriety, had three stints in rehab and once embarrassingly blamed his alcoholism on feeling trapped in his first marriage to Jennifer Garner. Despite rekindling their love in 2021 and eventually getting married in 2022, ongoing rumors about their marriage ending led Lopez to file for divorce in 2024.

Lopez and Affleck did not have a prenuptial agreement, and Ben had expressed a desire to keep their relationship private. In JLo’s documentary, “The Greatest Love Story Never Told,” Affleck was shocked to find musicians rifling through his private love letters that JLo had given them for inspiration. Affleck had kept these letters from his time with Garner and later had them bound into a book as a gift for Lopez, stressing the importance of privacy in their relationship. Despite the ups and downs of their marriage, both actors have expressed a willingness to work together again in the future.

Affleck was recently seen with his ex-wife Garner and their child returning from taking their eldest daughter to college, hours before Lopez filed for divorce on their two-year wedding anniversary. Lopez listed the date of separation as April 26, 2024, in legal documents. Affleck’s struggles with addiction and privacy issues seem to have been ongoing challenges in their relationship, leading to a breakdown in communication and ultimately resulting in their divorce. Lopez’s representative declined to comment, and Affleck’s team has not responded to requests for a statement on the matter.
