Rep. Andy Ogles of Tennessee is introducing the “Let Trump Speak Act” to prevent judges from issuing gag orders to defendants, such as former President Donald Trump. He believes that the right to speak freely, as guaranteed by the First Amendment, is the most sacred right for Americans. Ogles, a strong ally of Trump, accuses activists within the justice system of trying to silence Trump for their own political agenda. The bill would allow individuals to file civil lawsuits in U.S. district courts to seek injunctive relief if their right to speak is violated.

Ten Republicans in the GOP-led House are sponsoring the bill, including Rep. Bob Good, who believes that the harassment and weaponization of justice against President Trump should come to an end. Rep. Anna Paulina Luna also supports the bill, stating that attempts to silence President Trump must not corrupt vital American values. Other cosponsors include Rep. Jeff Duncan, Rep. Matt Rosendale, and Rep. Mary Miller. The introduction of the bill comes as the Appellate Division of the New York Supreme Court rejected Trump’s attempt to lift a gag order preventing him from speaking publicly about his case.

The New York court’s decision was based on the need to ensure the fair administration of justice in criminal cases and protect individuals involved in the case from threats, harassment, and harm. The case in question involves Michael Cohen paying Stormy Daniels $130,000 to silence her claims about an alleged affair with Trump in 2006. Despite denials from Trump regarding the affair, the legal case prohibiting him from speaking on certain matters remains ongoing. Trump’s legal team has the option to appeal the gag order to the New York Court of Appeals.

The Trump campaign has criticized the gag order, calling it unconstitutional and un-American. A campaign spokesman denounced the threat of throwing a former President in jail for exercising his First Amendment rights as a tactic typical of authoritarian regimes. The bill introduced by Rep. Ogles seeks to address this issue and protect individuals, including political figures, from being silenced by judges. The supporters of the bill believe that preserving the right to free speech is essential, especially in the face of political rivalries and attempts to restrict it for personal or political gain.

The Let Trump Speak Act is aimed at preventing the weaponization of the justice system against individuals like President Trump and ensuring that their right to free speech is protected. The bill has gained support from several Republican lawmakers who believe that the continued harassment and attempts to silence Trump must be stopped. By introducing this legislation, Rep. Ogles and his cosponsors are seeking to uphold American values and prevent political agendas from infringing on the fundamental rights guaranteed by the First Amendment. The ongoing legal battle over the gag order imposed on Trump highlights the importance of addressing this issue and protecting individuals from being unfairly silenced in legal proceedings.
