Kyle McNary, a 33-year-old man from Florida, led authorities on a bizarre and slow chase along State Route 1 in Flagler County. Driving at a pace as slow as 3 mph, McNary kicked a passenger out of his vehicle after pulling over to switch seats, reaching speeds of 15 to 20 mph at times. Sheriff Rick Staly described McNary as a “dirtbag” with a history of threatening and attacking deputy sheriffs. During the chase, he injured a person in a crash and was eventually apprehended by Flagler County deputies after driving slowly and refusing to pull over.

After kicking his passenger out of the vehicle, McNary hit another vehicle and left the passenger stranded on the side of the road in the rain. Despite authorities catching up to him, McNary refused to pull over and continued driving slowly as patrol cars followed behind. Ultimately, he pulled over and surrendered, but not before displaying threatening and resistant behavior towards the deputies. This behavior escalated at the hospital, where he attempted to bite one of the deputies, resulting in additional charges being filed against him.

Initially arrested for simple battery, failure to stop/remain at a crash involving serious bodily injury, fleeing and eluding law enforcement, and obstruction without violence, McNary was additionally charged with battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting a law enforcement officer with violence – aggravated assault, assault on a law enforcement officer, and threat with death or serious bodily harm. He is currently being held at the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility without bond.

Authorities expressed concerns for McNary’s actions causing harm to others and emphasized the need for him to remain in custody to prevent any further incidents. The sheriff’s office highlighted his history of threatening and attacking law enforcement and the seriousness of the recent criminal act that resulted in injuries to another individual. McNary’s slow chase along the freeway, along with his erratic and aggressive behavior towards deputies, paints a picture of a dangerous individual who poses a threat to public safety.

The pursuit involving McNary stands out as one of the slowest chases in history, with his driving speed at times barely reaching walking pace. The unusual nature of the chase, combined with the series of events that unfolded during and after the pursuit, has garnered attention and raised questions about McNary’s mental state and motives. Authorities are working to ensure that he remains in custody and faces the consequences of his actions to prevent any further harm to the community.

As the investigation into McNary’s actions continues, authorities are focused on ensuring that justice is served and that measures are taken to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future. The slow chase and subsequent events involving McNary have highlighted the importance of swift and effective law enforcement response to ensure public safety and hold individuals accountable for their actions.
