A 4-foot-4 baseball enthusiast from Long Island, New York, Christopher Disalvo had an unforgettable experience when his favorite player, Jose Altuve, gifted him the bat he used to hit a home run during a game at Camden Yards. The 11-year-old had called out to Altuve, asking him if he could keep the bat if he hit a home run. To his surprise, Altuve did so and handed him the bat, evoking an enthusiastic response from Disalvo who described it as the happiest moment of his life.

In the aftermath of his son’s memorable encounter, Chris Disalvo Sr., Christopher’s father, expressed a newfound level of admiration for Altuve. He appreciated the player’s sporty attitude towards an enthusiastic fan, despite the fact that Christopher wore the cap of their rivals, the Orioles. He is the coach of his son’s little league team, which was in Baltimore for a Ripken Experience Tournament. A visit to Camden Yards was a part of the family’s target to tour all 30 major-league ballparks.

The memorable event unfolded during the third inning of the game when Christopher made his request to Altuve. No sooner had he gotten back to his seat than Altuve called him down and handed him the bat. Chris Sr., who was in the restroom at the time, couldn’t believe what had transpired upon returning to their seats.

Despite being born a New York Mets fan, Christopher’s interest now lies more with individual players than entire teams. He is particularly fond of Elly De La Cruz and Jonathan India, with Altuve being his favorite player presumably because of their similar height. Altuve acknowledged the influence he and other professional baseball players can have on young fans, saying they play to inspire them to reach the major leagues and improve everyday.

Chris Sr. had a lot of praise for Altuve, referring to him as a respectful and enthusiast lover of the game. He appreciates the player’s professional conduct, whether through signing pre-match autographs or engaging fans in selfies. Altuve’s gesture toward his son is something he said they will always remember. Despite his team’s loss, Houston’s manager, Joe Espada also praised Altuve’s actions, saying such kindness and humility go beyond his performance on the pitch.

Altuve, known for his generosity within the Astros’ clubhouse, maintains an amicable relationship with fans, both during home and away fixtures. His big-hearted act at Camden Yards is a testimony to his character, one that resonated with Chris Sr. who feels it is a manifestation of Altuve’s respect and love for the game. The Disalvos’ experience at Camden Yards has certainly marked a distinct and memorable chapter in their quest to visit all major-league baseball parks.
