Apple’s latest MacBook Pro models may be the most advanced macOS laptops yet, but they are set to be replaced before the end of the year as the digital revolution of 2024 approaches. According to Apple reporter Mark Gurman, the company is ready to start production of the Apple Silicon M4 chipset for macOS and the MacBook Pro family. Despite the recent updates to the MacBook Pro with the M3 technology, the current platform lacks dedicated hardware for Artificial Intelligence, a key feature in the latest ARM chipsets for smartphones.

Windows manufacturers are gearing up to release laptops using Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite chipset, which offers similar performance and power benefits to Apple Silicon. Microsoft’s new Surface hardware is expected to launch exclusively with the ARM-based chipset, setting the stage for a competitive market. Apple is expected to upgrade its MacBook Pro lineup with the M4 chipset, including low-end and high-end 14-inch models and a 16-inch model, as well as the iMac and macMini, but the MacBook Air may not be included due to supply constraints.

Mac sales have seen a decline in the previous financial year, with Apple hoping that the focus on AI in the new MacBook Pro models will attract consumers to the macOS platform and encourage upgrades. The upcoming Worldwide Developer Conference in June will see Apple present its vision of AI on its mobile platforms, including MacOS, as it prepares to compete with the Windows ecosystem’s AI system and upgraded ARM experience. Consumers are advised to hold off on major purchases until they can compare the approaches of Apple and Microsoft to see which offers a better AI experience.

With the challenge set by Microsoft and ARM on Windows, Apple faces stiff competition this summer as it prepares to launch the M4 chipset and upgraded MacBook Pro models. The focus on AI in the new chipsets is expected to drive sales and attract consumers looking for advanced technology in their laptops. As the digital revolution of 2024 approaches, Apple is positioning itself to stay ahead of the curve and maintain its position as a leader in the laptop market.
