Nikki Haley, the former US ambassador to the UN and South Carolina governor, announced on Monday that she will be joining the Hudson Institute, a conservative foreign-policy think tank, as their Walter P. Stern Chair. This move comes after her recent decision to drop out of the Republican presidential primary race following Super Tuesday, where she failed to gain enough momentum against Donald Trump. During her bid for the presidency in 2024, Haley emphasized the importance of America’s alliances with countries such as Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan, and she plans to further her foreign-policy objectives by guiding other policymakers while at Hudson.

Haley expressed her belief in the critical work being done by the Hudson Institute in ensuring the safety and security of America through calling out enemies and acknowledging the importance of alliances. She highlighted the importance of providing policymakers with the facts and solutions needed to support a secure, free, and prosperous future. Haley looks forward to partnering with Hudson to defend the principles that make America the greatest country in the world. The Walter P. Stern Chair program, which Haley will be joining, was established in 2020 to honor the efforts of former Hudson Chairman Walter “Wally” Stern in transforming the institute into a well-known foreign policy organization.

John Walters, President and CEO of the Hudson Institute, praised Haley as a proven and effective leader in both foreign and domestic policy. He acknowledged her commitment to defending freedom and advocating for American security and prosperity in a time of global political upheaval. Walters expressed the institute’s honor in having Haley join their team and contribute to their mission. Following her resignation from the presidential race, Haley had been maintaining a low profile and spending time with her family while considering her next steps. In her resignation speech, she challenged Trump to earn the votes of her supporters but did not explicitly endorse him.

Sarah May Stern, chair of Hudson’s Board of Trustees, commended Haley on her new role at the think tank, citing her as a courageous and insightful policymaker whose qualities are integral to Hudson’s success as a policy organization. Stern expressed her pride in Haley’s decision to join the institute and believed that her expertise and leadership would further strengthen Hudson’s position in shaping influential foreign policy decisions. With Haley now in place as the Walter P. Stern Chair, Hudson Institute is poised to benefit from her experience and vision in shaping America’s foreign policy objectives in alignment with the institute’s mission for a more secure and prosperous future.
