Abbie Chatfield recently announced on her podcast that she made the heartbreaking decision to rehome her almost one-year-old puppy, Daisy. Daisy is a one-year-old cocker spaniel that Abbie adopted into her family in April. Abbie explained that she had to rehome Daisy due to issues with her older dog, Mr. Walter, who suffers from anxiety caused by previous owners. Abbie, who lives in a two-bedroom apartment in Sydney, tried various methods to help the two dogs get along but ultimately decided that rehoming Daisy was the best decision.

Despite trying everything within her capacity to make things work between her two furry babies, Abbie found that Walter’s jealousy and protective behavior towards Daisy were escalating. He would growl at her and pin her down, causing Daisy to be fearful of him. Abbie believed the problem would resolve itself as Daisy grew older and became better behaved, but found that Walter’s tolerance for her decreased as her behavior improved. Ultimately, Abbie realized that she didn’t have the skills or understanding of dogs to fix the relationship between Walter and Daisy, leading her to make the heartbreaking decision to rehome Daisy.

Abbie detailed how she had tried various solutions, such as relocating to the Northern Rivers to give the dogs time to adjust, sending Daisy to boarding school, and seeking advice from dog trainers and vets. Unfortunately, Walter’s jealousy towards Daisy remained unresolved, prompting Abbie to make the difficult decision to rehome Daisy. Abbie stressed that the decision was not based on the difficulty of raising a puppy, but rather on the realization that she couldn’t fix the relationship between her two dogs. She rehomed Daisy with a good friend’s sister in Brisbane, ensuring that she went to a loving and caring home.

The emotional toll of rehoming Daisy was evident in Abbie’s podcast, where she shared her struggles and sadness over the decision. She expressed her belief that rehoming Daisy was the right decision for both dogs, acknowledging the heartbreak she felt over the situation. Abbie received an outpouring of support from her followers, who praised her for making the difficult choice in the best interest of her dogs. Despite the heartbreaking circumstances, Abbie remains committed to providing a safe and loving environment for her dogs, recognizing that her decision was made out of concern for their well-being.
