Bella Lin, founder and CEO of GuineaLoft, started her small pet accessory brand after spending hours cleaning up after her guinea pigs. The cages she designed are easier to clean and more convenient for pet owners. Since its launch in 2022, GuineaLoft has seen significant growth, bringing in roughly $71,000 a month in revenue. This success is attributed to Lin winning $10,000 from a pitching competition, which allowed her to purchase an acrylic laser cutter to speed up production.

Lin’s father, a computer programmer who had worked with start-ups, encouraged her entrepreneurial spirit from a young age. Together, they started TLeggings, which brought in $300,000 at its peak. Lin’s proficiency in Chinese, along with her father’s connections to a factory in China, helped her navigate the manufacturing process for GuineaLoft. She considers her father to be a mentor who treated her as an equal in the business world.

GuineaLoft has expanded its product line to include accessories for hamsters, rabbits, and birds, in addition to guinea pigs. The company has faced challenges, such as having to redesign the hamster cage multiple times after receiving negative customer feedback. Despite these setbacks, Lin’s ability to fill a gap in the market and innovate on her original ideas has led to GuineaLoft’s success.

Lin is a full-time college student studying economics at The University of Chicago, but continues to run GuineaLoft as a side hustle. She works 30 hours per week on the business, balancing her coursework with entrepreneurship. Despite the company’s profitability, Lin has not started paying herself a salary, reinvesting the money back into GuineaLoft with plans to expand to brick-and-mortar stores in the future.

Lin’s ultimate goal for GuineaLoft is to become a recognized brand for small pet accessories. She envisions having products on physical store shelves and continuing to innovate in the pet industry. Lin’s experience as a guinea pig owner and her dedication to her business have fueled GuineaLoft’s growth, turning her childhood hobby into a successful entrepreneurial venture.

Lin’s unique niche in the pet accessory market sets GuineaLoft apart from other brands, allowing her to stand out and attract customers. Her ability to turn a personal passion into a profitable business demonstrates the power of determination and innovation. As she continues to grow GuineaLoft while pursuing her college education, Lin remains focused on her goal of becoming a prominent name in the small pet industry.
