During the presidential debate between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump, a pattern emerged where Harris stretched the truth and reframed her political weaknesses as strengths, while Trump fired off false statements. Harris tried to portray Trump’s tariffs as a “sales tax,” which he denied. Trump falsely claimed that Haitian migrants were eating pets in Springfield, Ohio, a rumor debunked by city officials. Harris claimed no U.S. military members were on active duty in combat zones, which is not true as troops continue to serve in various global hot spots.

Trump repeated his falsehood about abortions being performed after a child is born, a practice that is illegal in all 50 states. Harris exaggerated the amount of money the Biden administration had invested in clean energy, claiming $1 trillion when the actual figure is $700 billion. Trump also falsely claimed that Venezuelan gangs had taken over an apartment complex in Colorado, despite evidence to the contrary provided by local authorities and residents of the building.

One of Trump’s central claims is that the 2020 election was rigged and that voter fraud cost him the presidency. Despite his insistence on having proof, over 60 state and federal courts, his own attorney general, and independent investigators have all found the election to be fair and square. Despite his repeated assertions of widespread voter fraud, Trump has failed to provide credible evidence to support his claims, which he continued to assert during the debate.
