The Overall Winner of the competition, who will be announced on June 4 in London, will take home a £5,000 cash prize. An exhibition of all the finalist’s images will be held at The Mall Galleries in London from June 5 to June 9. This event is part of the Plate! One of the photographers, Alana Dimou, drew inspiration from her Egyptian roots for her entry in the competition. She highlights the beauty and abundance of tinned tomatoes, which are an essential ingredient in Egyptian cooking. Another photographer captured the texture and earthy flavor of an Italian Oyster Mushroom grown locally in Maine. The images showcase the diversity and beauty of food, emphasizing its importance in different cultures and cuisines.

Jacki Gordon, another participant in the competition, found a creative way to entertain her family and friends during the Covid pandemic lockdown. She began photographing tiny railway model figures with everyday food items, creating miniature scenes that captivate viewers. One of her images features Nordic walkers navigating a snowy mallow terrain on a tea cake. The attention to detail and whimsical charm of these images bring joy and delight to viewers.

David Cotsworth’s photograph captures the vibrant colors and textures of fruit displayed on an old bicycle in Hanoi, Vietnam. The contrast of the colorful fruits against the dark background and rusty bike creates a striking visual composition. Another image depicts a father and son fishing inside a karst cave in South Vietnam during the monsoon season, showcasing the unique fishing methods of the locals. The photographers’ ability to capture everyday moments and cultural traditions through food photography is truly impressive.

In Ethiopia, a photographer documented the Karo tribe women working together with stone grinders to prepare rice grain paste for their villagers. The image highlights the communal aspect of food preparation and the traditional methods used by different cultures. Through their lens, these photographers offer a glimpse into the beauty, diversity, and joy of food around the world. The Pink Lady® Food Photographer of the Year 2024 competition celebrates the art of food photography and showcases the talent and creativity of photographers who capture the essence of food in captivating ways.
