In Istanbul, the investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office Terrorism and Organized Crime Investigation Bureau for the 27 suspects who were identified as attacking police on May 1st and subsequently arrested has been completed. The suspects have been transferred to the Istanbul Courthouse in Çağlayan, where they provided statements to the prosecutor. The prosecutor requested that the suspects be remanded in custody, and the duty magistrate’s court decided to arrest all of the suspects. This comes after 49 suspects were previously arrested for similar charges.

The arrests stem from incidents on May 1st during the Labor and Solidarity Day in Istanbul, where 38 out of 217 suspects were arrested for attempting to advance towards Taksim Square and attacking police. Additionally, on May 5th, 11 out of 12 suspects who were apprehended for involvement in the demonstrations were also arrested. Following police investigations, 39 suspects who were later identified as attacking police on May 1st were wanted for offenses related to violating the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations and resisting public officials. Out of the 27 wanted suspects, 27 have been captured and taken into custody.
