Magician David Copperfield has been accused of sexual misconduct by 16 women, with allegations spanning from the late 1980s to 2014. Some of the women claimed they were underage at the time, and three alleged that they were drugged. Several said they met Copperfield during his performances.

Copperfield, through his lawyers, emphatically denied all allegations of inappropriate behavior, emphasizing that he has never acted inappropriately with anyone, particularly minors. Two women who had initially spoken out against him later wanted their claims removed after the Guardian approached Copperfield with questions about the accusations. His attorneys also stated that Copperfield has not provided settlements to accusers, calling it a “fishing expedition.”

Carla, who met Copperfield at 16, claimed that he pursued her for years waiting for her to turn 18 before she alleges he took her virginity. Another woman, Lily, claimed Copperfield groped her while performing a trick. Gillian, in her 20s, recounted a concerning experience where she believes she was drugged and assaulted in Copperfield’s hotel room. Olivia and Katie shared similar stories of alleged misconduct while participating in Copperfield’s shows.

Thornton accused Copperfield of groping her breast during a live performance, an incident she reported to the resort and casino, as well as the police. Six former employees from the early 1990s to mid-2000s claimed that Copperfield had a pattern of inviting young women to join him in his limousine, hotel room, or penthouse. However, some former employees refuted these claims, stating they never saw any inappropriate behavior by Copperfield.

In response to the allegations, a representative for Copperfield stated that the accusations do not align with who he is as a person and emphasized that the majority of the claims were previously made and refuted. Copperfield has requested evidence to support the allegations and stated that law enforcement investigations have found no case against him. The representative expressed support for those who have experienced abuse or discrimination and called for an end to false accusations.

The exposé has raised serious concerns about Copperfield’s behavior, with the women who have come forward sharing their traumatic experiences in public. Copperfield’s legal team is considering their response to the allegations and is committed to supporting the movement against abuse and discrimination. The statement concluded urging individuals affected by these issues to seek support from the Sexual Assault Hotline.
