Law enforcement teams from the Provincial Security Directorate have started an investigation based on information that some medications were being sold unlawfully, according to a statement made by the Provincial Security Directorate’s Smuggling and Organized Crime Branch.

As a result of technical and physical surveillance, the teams determined that the suspects were part of an organization involving pharmacists and hospital officials in Mersin, Adana, and Hatay. Within this organization, expensive medications were purchased in the names of patients with prescriptions and sold to uninsured individuals.

The suspects were found to be working with drug representatives, and as a result, simultaneous operations were carried out at addresses identified in 8 provinces with Mersin at the center. In the operation, 19 suspects were apprehended.

During a search conducted at one of the addresses, it was discovered that certain medications that require special storage conditions were being stored in places like washing machines and laundry baskets.

A total of 13,500 boxes of medications with a market value of 3.5 million Turkish Lira were seized during the operation. The suspects who were taken into custody are still undergoing procedures at the police station.
