An inquest has heard that a 12-year-old boy named Kaicy Brown and his grandfather, David Brown, were found dead next to each other in a tent during a camping trip in Powys, Wales. Kaicy’s uncle found him unresponsive on September 14 and contacted emergency services, but the boy could not be saved. David, aged 66, was also found unresponsive alongside his grandson. Coroner Graeme Hughes told Pontypridd Coroner’s Court that more toxicology analysis was needed to determine the cause of Kaicy’s death, including tests for carbon monoxide levels in his blood. An investigation into David’s death was also being carried out. The inquest has been adjourned until a future date.

The family had traveled from Berkshire, England for the camping trip, during which Kaicy and David were believed to have succumbed to carbon monoxide poisoning. A GoFundMe page created by Phil Sherwood, the headteacher at Kaicy’s elementary school, has been set up to support the family during this difficult time. The donations will support Kaicy and his older brother Reo’s grandmother, Mandi Brown, who is the boys’ guardian and also a teaching assistant at the elementary school. A second GoFundMe has been set up by friends to support the boys’ mother, Jessica Brown, who lost both her son and father in the tragedy. The funds raised will go towards funeral costs, a memorial, and legal fees to bring Kaicy home.

Kaicy was described as a kind, thoughtful, and talented boy who illuminated the room with his smile and sense of humor. He was an exceptional artist with a strong attention to detail and a commitment to his artwork. The GoFundMe page also mentioned that Kaicy always upheld the school’s values and was considered a bright student with a promising future. The family is going through an unimaginably difficult time, and the donations from the community are meant to provide support in their time of need. The tributes and condolences pouring in highlight the impact that Kaicy had on those around him and the loss that is being felt by his loved ones.

The inquest will continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding Kaicy and David’s deaths, with a focus on understanding the levels of carbon monoxide that may have been present in the tent. The tragic incident has left the family reeling from the loss of both Kaicy and David, who were on a camping trip together. The community has come together to offer support through the GoFundMe pages set up in memory of the two individuals. The outpouring of donations and messages of sympathy from friends, family, and well-wishers is a testament to the impact that Kaicy and David had on those around them.

The donations will not only assist with the immediate financial needs of the family, such as funeral expenses and legal fees, but also serve as a tribute to the lives of Kaicy and David. The funds raised will help bring closure to the family and ensure that they have the support necessary to navigate through this challenging time. The focus on carbon monoxide awareness in the fundraisers is a reminder of the importance of being vigilant about potential dangers while camping or in other enclosed spaces. The tragic loss of Kaicy and David serves as a stark reminder of the potential risks that can arise during outdoor activities and the need for safety precautions to prevent similar tragedies from occurring in the future.
